3 Resume Mistakes to Avoid

3 mistakes to avoid when applying for work.

❌ Including the wrong company or hiring manager’s name in the email subject / job application letter.

This happens all too much. Too many job seekers follow a “crash job search” routine. For weeks, they may do nothing, and then one day, attempt to apply to 200 jobs in one day.

The result is making errors on your job application that can cost you a job that is a great fit.

❌ Using the same resumé for every job you apply to.

This again can cost you a job you may be qualified for.

The way to correct this is by tailoring the top part of the resume (job title and profile summary) to each job type. The rest of the resume can remain pretty much the same, or you can include industry specific jobs in each resume, while excluding unrelated jobs.

❌ Not updating your resume.

You should update your resumé at least every six months.

Not doing so can make your resumé outdated. With changes in the business and career world happening every millisecond, this can make your skills seem ancient and obsolete.

Correct this by updating your resumé at least every six months, highlighting new jobs, achievements, important work duties, and new skills and trainings.

Remove any items and descriptions that don’t belong or are not vital.
