Balancing work and worship during Ramadan

How to balance work and worship during Ramadan

Ramadan is the month of worship, so you may want to prioritize earning rewards through worship, prayers and Quran recitation. However you may have to work as well and may wonder how to balance the two.

Working and earning a living is also highly regarded in religion Islam. Earning a living comes with its own rewards. You don’t need to sacrifice earning a living for night prayers and can do both moderately.

The following are things you can do to balance worship and work during Ramadan:

  • Sleep a few hours of the night instead of staying up all night.
  • Sleep a little after the morning prayer, if your schedule allows.
  • Speak to your employer about being able to come to work a little late such as 10 am and 11 am or working half-days only during Ramadan.
  • If possible delay difficult work or projects until after Ramadan.
  • Because a lot of companies have hybrid work arrangements now after the pandemic, if possible work from home during most days in Ramadan.
  • If you have vacation days available, take a few days or weeks off from work. You may want to use paid or unpaid vacation days especially during the last ten days of Ramadan.

Finally if your work schedule doesn’t allow it, you can still earn plenty of rewards between sunset and bedtime reading the Quran, praying, and doing dhikr (remembrance of God). In addition, since rewards are more during Ramadan at any time of the day, you can use break time and commute time for dhikr and Quran recitation. Ramadan productivity tips
