Chat GPT has taken the world by storm.
What is Chat GPT: Chat GPT is an AI platform where you enter prompts telling it to do something and it does it for you. For example, you might enter the prompt “create article on failure of education.” Or “compile lists of companies in a particular region providing a particular service.” Or “create xyz image or graphic.” Chat GPT was created by Open AI, a company co-founded by one of the world’s richest people, Elon Musk, and is pretty efficient in its performance.
The more accurate your prompt is, the more likely you will get the desired results. You can improve on your prompts with additional prompts.
Chat GPT has the potential to make many jobs obsolete. Many people are afraid they might lose their jobs to Chat GPT and similar AI. Because Chat GPT can be used for complex functions like writing essays and articles, creating designs and graphics, and writing computer code, it has the potential to take over many jobs.
However, it also has the potential to make a lot of jobs easier, better and faster. If you master this technology, you can use it to improve your work instead of it taking over your work. Here is what to do to use Chat GPT to your advantage:
- Be one of the first to learn to use the platform and master it. Hamadan University offers a free 15 minute training covering the basics of Chat GPT.
- Sign up for the platform and practice using it. The link is: https://chat.OpenAi.com https://chat.openai.com/auth/login
- Ask yourself “how can I use this program in my work area? How can I use it to make my work or myself more efficient and more valuable?”
Is it wrong to use Chat GPT?
You may wonder if it is wrong or unethical to use Chat GPT to create an essay or article or an educational curriculum or even a website.
Just as it isn’t wrong to use a calculator to do calculations or use accounting software to create financial statements with the click of a button, likewise it isn’t wrong to use Chat GPT or other AI program.
The important thing is to be transparent. If you are a student, your professor should be aware and approve that you are using Chat GPT and know the extent of your use for any work you are submitting for grading. If you are an employee, then your manager / boss should be aware of your using AI in your work.
The second thing, and even more important is not to depend on AI entirely lest you lose vital skills. Any technology is not fail-proof. In addition, some events can cause technology to become obsolete either temporarily or permanently, such as solar flares or a nuclear war, or even total electric outage. For these reasons, it’s imperative your skills are sharp and usable with or without technology.
Have you tried Chat GPT? What was your experience with the program? Let me know in the comments below.
